1010 DANCE

THE DanceSport Master Class

HIGH-LEVEL INSTRUCTION
The centerpiece of the TenTen Dance project is a master class focused on ballroom dance. It is a demanding class with an exceptionally high-level of instruction—our goal is to train dancers who can achieve high-quality movement.

It is FREE to members invited to the program.

PHILOSOPHY
Our Director, a technique coach and author, developed what he calls The Way of Quiet Dancing.  It is a philosophy of ballroom dance movement whose goal is the attainment of quiet, unobtrusive artistic expression—focused on lyricism instead of the unnecessary expenditure of energy and power.
FAST DEVELOPMENT
Our instructor also developed a FAST-LEARNING method that accelerates the development of dancers. They learn to create high-quality movement faster. This is evident in the class format. Though the class is designed for beginners (and beyond-beginners), it is very technique-heavy. That means, we train beginners to have a solid technical foundation from the time they start dancing with us. In ballroom-speak, that means anyone—from newcomer, bronze, up to gold students—will learn technique secrets to good movement.
NOT FOR PROFIT
1010 Dance is not a commercial studio. It is not for profit. It is a free program run exclusively by volunteers and funded through fund-raising efforts of the team. It is also currently sponsored by USA Dance's Eugene-Springfield chapter. We train in a beautiful ballroom in Eugene, Oregon, a few blocks from the University of Oregon.

Standard and Latin

International Style

We study, train, and practice mostly in International Style Standard & Latin. (We do sprinkle some Open work, Social dancing, and American styles just for the fun of it).

Focus

While we work with syllabus figures, we strongly emphasize mechanical accuracy, precise foot placement, advanced partnering techniques, and proper dance movement.

Fast Learning Technique

The pace of our training is quite intense and fast (faster than regular group classes and private lessons offered by many dance studios). And it is very rigorous.

The Fast-Learning technique developed by our director helps dancers understand movement better. The focus on segmentation (a modular approach to learning figures and routines) allows us to accelerate the development of our dancers. Dancers get better faster.

Master Class Format

Our two-hour Sunday training sessions are Master Classes in movement and Technique. They are divided into segment exercises and formal dance routines in Latin and Standard. Whenever possible, we generally work on four dance styles during each two-hour session—two styles in Standard and two in Latin, starting with bronze syllabus upwards through gold as the term progresses. And for fun, we include some open-level figures too.

Master Class Schedule

Our ten-week terms are synchronized with university and collegiate schedules—since many of our team members are students from the University of Oregon. This year our FALL term is ALREADY UNDERWAY. It started on the FOURTH Sunday of September (on the 28th).

Our next term, the WINTER Term, is tentatively scheduled to start on the FIRST SUNDAY JANUARY.

Dancers accepted into the class can start at any time during the term. And no, you are not required to bring a partner, although having someone to work with after class is always recommended. However, you must bring ballet shoes or gym socks. Being non-traditional in our training, we don't use ballroom dance shoes during our lessons.

Registration Information

Limited Slots Available

TENTENDANCE.COM IMAGE
This is a rare chance to learn from an International Style Instructor and Technique Master.

By Invitation Only

We have very limited slots so membership to the group is by invitation only. And we do have an age limit (18-29).

We keep the class size small (15-20 active members). This allows the instructor to give each student individual attention during training.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must have some dance experience (not necessarily ballroom) and pass an entrance audition. We are looking for dedicated dancers willing to work on the art and can demonstrate their passion for dance.

If you don't have dance skills yet, but have the talent for movement, show us!

If you are selected, you will be placed on our waiting list. When a slot becomes available, you will be invited to join the class immediately.
